Thanks for investing in our youth!

Our journey began in 2000 when the Founder, Jaha Wilder created a music CD named “Young Journey Children’s Music ”. She began to write and develop programs to engage traditionally underserved youth. She started small programs in Tennessee schools, and then moved on to Brooklyn, New York where Young Journey performed songs at community venues and on public television stations. In 2005, we incorporated to become a tax-deductible 501c3 foundation.

We expanded into Central Texas in 2015. The programs quickly grew into musical theater workshops in Tennessee and New York public and private schools. Tailored programs are project based using participant's career interests. Some industries youth learn about are television and film, theater, music and video production, fashion, media publications and sports. These are all platforms used to instill the value of education, introduce career opportunities and the importance of having excellent character traits.

The reason Young Journey exists is to increase the value of young people.  Our Founder's own personal challenges as a teen including surviving a gunshot incident, showed her the need for all youth to know they are valuable. Her passion to help steer young people in the right direction in very strong. It is important to her that they have value for all life. Her sacrifice to help guide all youth toward educational paths for a successful life is endless. She strongly believes in giving back. The fuel that drives of her vision is that no one should ever stop learning and growing on his or her young journey.

Young Journey has opportunities for all youth from all backgrounds ages pre-K through young adults. We have a strong focus on traditionally underserved girls and boys ages 11 - 18. We are committed to creating safe learning environments that inspire youth who may need extra support for a successful life. Each Young Journey experience helps young people understand life as a journey and that every choice determines their future.

WHAT WE DO

We provide high quality performing arts, media technology & sports workshops helping youth become self-sufficient and ready for the workforce. Our arts and communication workshops improve general reading, writing and basic life skills resulting in effective communication.

Youth use critical and creative thinking in our hands on educational training sessions. We connect youth to career pathways and fortify their journey to adulthood. The Young Journey TV (YJTV) productions air in the Austin, Texas area and online. The upcoming conditioning & strengthening program for young athletes will enhance abilities across every sport.

Behind the programs, projects and events, Young Journey is a place where youth can come together to learn transferable skills. Through customized creative workshops and events, they learn soft skills while creatively finding their voice. Cultural and education trips are essential and used to enhance learning.Topics highlighted in programs are education, teen life issues, healthy living, environmental concerns and community service learning.
